Tiket Dummy for Indonesian Passport Holders: When You Need One
Yes, Indonesian passport holders need a flight reservation for most visa files, and tiket dummy is the local name for one. Schengen, UK and US applications all require a visa in advance, and Jakarta missions such as Germany's accept a print-out of an intended reservation rather than a paid ticket. Two days costs Rp235,000.

Yes, Indonesian passport holders need a flight reservation for most visa applications, and "tiket dummy" is just the local name for one. It is a genuine unticketed booking carrying a six-character PNR, not a paid ticket, and the embassies that collect applications in Jakarta ask for it because they do not want you buying flights before a decision. A two-day reservation starts at Rp235,000.
What does "tiket dummy" actually mean?
Tiket dummy, dummy ticket, dummy flight ticket and flight reservation all describe the same document. It is a booking held in an airline reservation system under a six-character record locator, created properly but never paid for and never issued as a ticket.
The word "dummy" trips people up because it sounds like something invented. Nothing about the booking is invented: the PNR sits on Amadeus, Sabre or Travelport, the flight numbers and times are real, and anyone with access to those systems can pull it up and read your name on it.
What makes it a dummy is only that nobody has bought a ticket against it yet. That is the whole point for a visa file, because the consulate wants to see a planned route, not a receipt for money you might lose if the answer is no.
If someone offers you a "tiket palsu" or an edited PDF with no PNR behind it, that is a different product and a bad idea. A reservation either exists in a reservation system or it does not, and the ones that do not are the ones that get applications refused.
Which countries need a visa on an Indonesian passport?
All the big long-haul destinations still require a visa arranged before you fly. Indonesia sits in Annex I of EU Regulation 2018/1806, the list of countries whose nationals need a visa for the Schengen area, so there is no visa-free or visa-on-arrival shortcut into Europe.
The United Kingdom is the same story. Indonesia appears on the Home Office's visa national list, which means a Standard Visitor visa before travel rather than the electronic travel authorisation that visa-exempt nationalities use.
For the United States, Indonesia is not one of the forty-two countries designated under the Visa Waiver Program, so ESTA is not an option and a B1/B2 interview applies. Travel inside Southeast Asia is far easier, which is exactly why the paperwork for a first trip to Europe or the UK feels like a shock.
The pattern across all of these is the same. Every one of them wants to know when you are leaving, where you are going and when you are coming home, and the cheapest way to answer that on paper is a reservation rather than a ticket.
Need proof of onward travel?
A real PNR you can show the embassy or the airline from USD 13, without buying a ticket you might not use.
Where do Indonesians apply for a Schengen visa?
Almost all Schengen applications from Indonesia are collected by outsourced visa application centres rather than at the embassy counter. The Dutch government's own guidance tells applicants living in Indonesia to lodge at a VFS Global centre, naming Jakarta, Bali, Surabaya, Ambon, Makassar and Medan.
Which mission decides your case depends on your main destination, meaning the country where you will spend the most nights. Jakarta hosts the intake for most of them, and a few missions use a different operator, so check the page for your destination country before you book an appointment.
The practical effect is that a counter clerk, not a visa officer, takes your file. They work from a printed checklist and tick items off, so a missing flight booking becomes a problem at the desk long before anyone assesses your trip. Our full Schengen travel plan checklist walks through what those lists usually contain.
Does a Schengen application really need a flight booking?
Yes, and several Jakarta missions say in writing that a reservation is enough. The German embassy's Schengen tourism checklist for Indonesia asks for a "print-out of intended flight reservation" and adds in brackets that you are not required to present a paid booking confirmation.
The Danish embassy in Jakarta put it even more plainly on its own checklist, saying only a confirmed return flight reservation is required and that the ticket should be bought only after the visa has been issued. Two missions, two separate documents, one instruction: reserve now, buy later.
Each mission publishes its own list and they do get updated, so read the current checklist for the country you are applying to. The direction of travel has been consistent for years though, and no Schengen consulate asks Indonesian applicants to buy a ticket up front.
If Europe is your destination, our Schengen visa flight reservation page covers the dates, the routing and how long the hold needs to last for a typical two-week trip.
What does the EU Visa Code say about flight bookings?
The Visa Code never uses the words "dummy ticket", and that is worth understanding before you argue with anyone about it. Article 14(1) of Regulation (EC) No 810/2009 requires an applicant to present "documents indicating the purpose of the journey" and "information enabling an assessment of the applicant's intention to leave the territory of the Member States before the expiry of the visa applied for".
That second phrase is where your flight reservation lives. It is evidence of intent to leave, which is why a return or onward leg matters more to the officer than the price you paid.
The official Schengen application form backs this up. Its "for official use only" box has a tick line for "means of transport", sitting beside travel document, means of subsistence and insurance, so the file is recorded as having a transport document either way.
Nothing in the code says that document has to be a purchased ticket. The embassy checklists in Jakarta simply apply that flexibility in the applicant's favour.
Do airlines ask for a return ticket at check-in?
Yes, and the one-way traveller is the one who gets stopped. Airlines carry the cost when a destination refuses your entry, and IATA reports that penalties for carrying an inadmissible passenger run from about USD 1,000 to USD 2,500 per case, with some countries charging up to USD 10,000.
Check-in staff are not assessing you personally. They read the destination's entry rules off their screen, and if those rules call for onward or return travel, they need to see something before a boarding pass prints.
A one-way ticket to a country that expects proof of onward travel is the classic hold-up. The UK's own visitor guidance says you must be able to show you can pay for your return or onward journey, and the agent at the desk is the first person who checks it.
This is the case our onward ticket page is built for, and this guide to using a reservation at check-in explains how to present one without creating confusion.
Should the reservation be a return or a one-way?
For a visa file, book the return. The Danish checklist in Jakarta names a confirmed return flight reservation specifically, and a return leg is the cleanest answer to the Visa Code's question about your intention to leave before the visa expires.
One-way reservations have their own use, which is the airline counter on a genuinely open-ended trip. If you are moving on by bus, ferry or a flight you have not booked yet, an onward leg out of the country is what the agent needs to see, and it does not have to be a return to Indonesia.
Multi-country Schengen trips are where people overthink it. Reserve the inbound and the outbound flights for the Schengen area as a whole and show your internal hops in the itinerary you submit, rather than reserving every leg separately.
The one rule that holds across all of these is consistency. Whatever dates sit on your reservation should match your application form, your accommodation and the story you tell at the counter.
Why can I not find my reservation on the airline's website?
Because most airline websites only show bookings that have been ticketed. Your reservation is live in the GDS, with a valid PNR and your name on it, but the airline's own "manage my booking" page is built around issued tickets and will often return nothing.
Emirates and Etihad are the usual exceptions and tend to display an unticketed hold. For everyone else, an empty result on the airline site is normal and says nothing about whether the booking exists.
Verification is GDS-primary. Consulates and border officers who want to check a reservation look it up in the reservation system or through a travel agency terminal, which is where the record actually lives, as explained in our piece on how embassies verify flight reservations through the GDS.
Knowing this in advance saves a panic. If a friend tells you the booking "is not real" because the airline site shows nothing, they have simply checked the wrong system.
How much does a tiket dummy cost in rupiah?
Pricing is set by how long the reservation needs to stay live, not by route or destination. Two days costs Rp235,000, seven days costs Rp345,000 and fourteen days costs Rp379,000, which is USD 13, USD 19 and USD 21 respectively.
Pick the length against your appointment, not your trip. A two-day hold is fine for an airline check-in desk or an interview tomorrow, while a visa file sitting with a consulate for a week or more needs the longer window.
Delivery is by email within minutes of payment, with the PNR on the document so anyone can check it. Rupiah pricing and payment sit on the Indonesia page if you would rather not deal in dollars.
When should you not use a tiket dummy?
Never use one as a substitute for travel you have actually been told to book and pay for. Some applications and some employers ask specifically for an issued ticket, and a reservation will not satisfy a requirement written that way.
Describe the document accurately if anyone asks what it is. It is a confirmed flight reservation, not a paid ticket, and saying so is both true and the answer that keeps a conversation short.
Do not edit the PDF you receive, for any reason, including fixing a date. Change the document and it no longer matches the PNR behind it, which is the one thing a checker can catch instantly.
We sell flight reservations only. We do not sell hotel reservations, and travel insurance is arranged by email on request rather than bought off the site.
How do you get one before your appointment?
Pick your route and dates, choose the hold length, pay, and the reservation arrives by email with its PNR within minutes. There is no account to create and no documents to upload beyond the passenger name as it appears in your passport.
Get the name exactly right, because a spelling that does not match your passport is the one error that makes the document useless at a counter. Check the surname and given names against the passport page before you submit.
For a Schengen file, reserve a return leg that fits the dates on your application form and your accommodation booking. Officers read those three documents together, and a mismatch is far more likely to cause questions than the fact that your flight is unticketed.
If you are applying in Jakarta this month, start with the rupiah pricing page and pick the hold that covers your appointment plus the processing window your mission publishes. Our guide to documents that prove onward travel to immigration covers what to carry on the day you fly.
